Books

Hopeless (Hopeless 1) by Colleen Hoover: Another YA book, this time I made sure not to read part 2. Interesting characters and story, the perfect beach read.

Limit by Frank Schätzing: I have read his book “The Swarm” years ago and loved it. Limit is not as fluently written, has some really long parts and is probably overall too long (1300 pages in German/English only 881). It was an okay read if you want to make time for it. The story itself is as usual well researched and based on facts about alternative energy. In a way a fascinating topic. I wish his editor would have shortened the book by a third. Therefore I would suggest to read the book on an e-reader, it is a heavy read in the literal sense.

The Engagements by J. Courtney Sullivan: Five different characters during different times from the 70s to now are shown in their struggle and believe of marriage and society. I like how a lot of stories lead together and interacted. Very well researched if you are interested in diamonds, advertising, classical music and paramedics. Very quick and enjoyable read, a blessing after “Limit”.

The Giver by Lois Lowry: Again a YA book with the background of an utopian world. In a perfect world where personal choice is eradicated, the main character gets chosen as receiver of memories. When he finds out the price that the community has to pay for “the perfect world”, he has to make a decision. Very interesting concept and a quick read. It has been made into a movie with Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep, which will be out later this year.
