Books

The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan: Fan fiction of the fairy tale romance of William and Kate. What looks glossy on the surface does become a nightmare eventually. Once you realize what goes on behind closed doors (and I don’t mean the fighting within the royal family because who really knows what’s happening there) you see how much effort it takes to become part of ‘The Firm’. It sounds very believable all the training and prepping that goes into the role of being a princess.

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven: I don’t know what I expected from this book but definitely not this! I read it in one go (the long drive might have helped) and was totally hooked. The topic of mental illness like here in teenagers is not something you come across often. All the more astonishing that it’s so easily presented here. Oh how I was rooting for Violet and Finch!

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng: It starts with the death of the middle child and then goes back in 12 chapters on how it came to be. Very interesting family of mixed racial background and how the offsprings deal with it, this is basically the plot of the book. And although the end is known at the beginning I was curious to see where it was going. It’s not easy being different no matter where you live. The book plays in the ’70s but has anything really changed?

Above Us Only Sky by Michele Young-Stone: A girl is born with wings and on these wings the story unfolds. From Lithuanian refugees to America to those who survived in Lithuania under the Russians, Hitler and under Russia again to the fall of the iron curtain. A family history jumping back and forth but always staying close to the wings. Most important of all is family and that we stay close to them and appreciate what we have.
