Books

Our Song by Dani Atkins: The first part is definitely a beach read, light and fluffy and a romantic love story while for the second part you rather want to stay home (if you are like me and cry easily). It’s a sob feast. I had to stop reading at least three or four times because I was afraid that my tears would wash my contacts out. The end is quite foreseeable but it still hits you like a hammer and haunts long after you have finished the book. Not an easy read, but so good to read.

Vikings by Neil Oliver: When I was in Scotland I bought this and “The history of Scotland” from Neil Oliver. While the Scottish history was amazing and a thoroughly enjoyable book the Vikings left me discontent. The book follows more the adventures of Neil Oliver experiencing a night in an iron-age home or a one hour ride on a viking boat than the actual history of the Vikings. Which sounds unfair but the book just lacked the spark which enthralled me with the Scottish history.

The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman: Set in the time after WWI somewhere in West Australia. Tom and Lucy are the most adorable couple but then with each miscarriage the drama increases on this small island in the middle of two oceans until it climaxes in the arrival of a boat. Since nobody saw anything and the lighthouse was only a silent witness the story spins out of control. Coming soon to the movies (with Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander and Rachel Weisz) if you don’t want to read it, but what a miss!

Am Arsch vorbei geht auch ein Weg by Alexandra Reinwarth: The author writes about how life can get easier when you tell yourself more often “I don’t give a f*ck about …”! And that’s exactly what I should do. There are quite a couple of situations where I feel trapped and think I have to do stuff when I reality I could just try to remedy it by above mentioned attitude. Entertaining read with a lot of helpful examples. Can’t wait to practice it.
