Did I Mention I Need You? by Estelle Maskame: Part 2 of the “Did I mention” series. Still not convinced of the writing, it is very repetitive. Also, what’s up with the story line here? They want each other, so why don’t they do it? And what is with this insane jealousy? I don’t know, are teenagers really like this? So under confident about themselves? Anyway, I finished it and of course I am going for Part 3 right away.

Did I Mention I Miss You? by Estelle Maskame: Not really better than the first two books. But of course once started, you have to finish a series. The ending was fine. I like that there was no Epilogue with a happily ever after. The main characters are barely out of their teens. I can’t really recommend it, the writing is sloppy. There are a few content errors in it and the story is only so-so. As far as YA romances go, there are better ones.

The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914 by Christopher Clark: first up, I “read” this one as an audio book and if you are like me and only listen to it on a commute then that doesn’t work. It’s a long book to begin with and I am sure I heard it thrice. I don’t regret that because the material is not easy. Still, I think it’s better to actually read than listened to it. The book itself was pretty amazing and the title aptly chosen. Unbelievable how WWI started, how the world or rather Europe just let it happen. There is not one guilty party, everyone is to blame. And while the shots in Sarajevo might have been the trigger, it started long before.

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller: There is a catch to Catch-22. It takes forever until one catches on with what’s going on. The first 200 pages I couldn’t follow the timeline and the characters were caricatures of themselves. Moreover every dialogue gets repeated, every description has ten adjectives depticting the same quality. Once you muddle through this, it makes sense. The madness of war looms over everything and the style of the book just enhances this crazy feeling. Stays with you for a long time after.
