Books

One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus: After the first couple of chapters I was hooked and spent a whole afternoon on the couch reading until late into the night. I really liked this idea of five students getting detention and only four are leaving the room again. Each and every one has a secret which he or she doesn’t want to come out. How convenient then that the guy who died was the biggest gossip there was. Excellent read. What a disappointment that I finished it so quick.

The Illuminae Files 1. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff: Somewhere in space at a distant time in the future there is an attack on a planet. Only a handful of people make it off said planet and flee to safety. But all hell breaks loose when a virus mutates and changes people into zombies. In the middle of this chaos Kady and Ezra work on their relationship issues and try to survive. As weird as it sounds the story works. It is entertaining and fast paced and left me wanting for more. How great that it is as usual a trilogy.

Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari: Romance itself has changed a lot through the centuries. But also each culture has a different approach to it. I found it interesting to hear how the internet has changed romance and the expectations which come with online dating. Meeting online has becoming quite common and is in today’s world the gateway to most budding romances. I liked especially the pitfalls of online dating which are too much choice and how to handle it as well as awful opening lines.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee: A classic book which is more up-to-date than one would think. Since I never read it but only ever watched the movie, it was high time to get acquainted with it. I listened to it on audio book and really enjoyed the story telling. It begins with the neighbour and ends with him and in between the lives of the family Finch have changed. Reading about the racial tensions and injustices makes you realize that not much has changed since 1935.
