A foodie weekend in Bergen

Besides a fjord cruise and walking around in the rain what I really enjoyed in Bergen was to discover new flavors. I let myself try and taste as much as possible, there is always enough time to diet at home, don’t you think? There is lots of fish and seafood to be had, not only at Cornelius Seafood Restaurant but all over town. The bounty of the sea is a staple here and comes in all kinds of variations. For example as fish soup which was at the Bryggeloftet & Stuene Restaurant really thick and creamy (more so than in Oslo). Very tasty and full of fish and just the right thing after a day of running around.

Or it comes in form of a seafood platter (also at Bryggeloftet & Stuene Restaurant) that in this way I would never order again. Way too much protein and of course everything except the mussels was cold. I like my prawns hot and dipped in butter.

At Spisekroken the mussels were served as soup with coriander oil and artichoke chips. With a slightly sour overall taste. Also creamy! Either they all took a page out of a French cookbook or they need the calories for the long winter months. But for sure a soup that warms you from the inside.

The catch of the day came off lighter. The cusk was served with a creamy barley risotto and vegetables. Also some undefinable fried vegetables.

I loved my smørbrød (an open sandwich) which I bought somewhere in a bakery with coffee. Just the right snack for in between. Bakeries are always an excellent source for sustenance. A fresh selection of sandwiches is always available.

By far my favorite place in Bergen was TempoTempo. A mix of pub, cocktail bar and pizza place with a lot of charm. Not only from the place itself but also the service people. Even though I spent only four days in Bergen, I managed a drink there every day. Definitely a place you don’t want to miss. Yours, Pollybert
