Breakfast at Neni am Naschmarkt

The Naschmarkt is one of my favorite places for breakfast on Saturday. I love the relaxed atmosphere in summer, when everyone sits outside for coffee and then later shops for fresh produce with the farmers. It’s different this year with all the tourists missing. But the locals are coming out again and quite a few of them find their way to Neni am Naschmarkt as well.

Neni am Naschmarkt is usually a good choice for breakfast. When I was in Tel Aviv last year, I immensely enjoyed the first meal of the day. Actually every meal. The food was so great there. And while Neni doesn’t have all these options, what they do serve is nicely done.

My friend ordered Shakshouka, which are eggs in a spicy tomato sauce with extra pastrami on top. I have never seen that before, but he liked it and everything look appealing.

I on the other hand got an the Israeli Breakfast with a herbal green omelette, labneh with olives, and salad. The toasted bread was good but didn’t resemble the promised brioche. Everything else though was good, especially the salad. It had a nice citrus flavor and was really fresh. The omelette could have been a tad shorter on the stove, but was still tasty.

Overall it was a nice change from the last couple of breakfast places. So I am not really sure why this feels more like a lukewarm endorsement. Maybe because I know that breakfast in Israel can be absolutely great? And at Neni am Naschmarkt it was good but not great. Never mind, there are no other Israeli restaurants in the city which offer good breakfast I think (Florentin doesn’t count either). If you know of one let me know. Meanwhile Neni am Naschmarkt is a good enough option when the mood strikes you for Israeli food. Yours, Pollybert
