Xpedit

Xpedit has been a around for a while, but I think I only had dinner there twice or so. I am not really sure why I never managed to come by more often, because it’s definitely not the restaurant’s fault. Happily we had a reservation for six people, the restaurant is quite busy and almost all tables were either occupied or reserved.

The menu is short and easy to follow. A couple of starters, pastas, meat and fish dishes, and dessert. We all forwent a starter and got right into the middle of things. Two ordered linguine con gamberoni. It looked like a nice enough portion, and, since no one complained, I guess it was tasty.

The sea bream looked great as well and came with a couple of potatoes. There is no picture though, it was filleted right away when it was served.

The red beet risotto had a lovely and intense color. Also this one diner arrived a bit later and the service had no trouble keeping it warm.

I can say the most about the daily pasta, which on that day was rigatoni with eggplant, capers and dried apricot. It came with a small side salad. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect with the apricots, but I was in the mood for capers. The pasta was lovely, had a nice lemony salty taste, not extra cheese was needed. The color is not really great, but taste wise it was a big hit.

Dessert was also on the agenda. We got one Affogato which is plain espresso with one scoop of vanilla ice cream and a chocolate cake. Can’t say anything about the Affogato, and anyway what could go wrong with this.

But I tried the chocolate cake, which resembled more a brownie. I was really rich, covered in more chocolate sauce and covered with orange slices. Without these it was almost too rich to eat. My friend shared it with the table and it went round, not one, not twice, but three times and was still not finished. Definitely a dessert you need friends for, but very nice when you get a spoonful.

I liked the relaxed atmosphere and especially the unpretentious cooking. Everything was lovely and service was excellent as well. Xpedit really deserves its place in the Viennese restaurant scene. You can’t go wrong here. Yours, Pollybert
