Room Eleven turned out to be a Shisha Lounge, which also serves breakfast. Sometimes I wonder where I find these breakfast recommendations, as does my friend who comes along with me. But here we were, on a dreary Saturday.
It had started already funny, when I made the reservation on the phone. The guy on the other end confused first the time, then the date, then the number of people. In the end it was not necessary to make a reservation. Except for a couple of locals, the café was empty.
The breakfast menu is short and manageable. It offered two dishes I did not know, Menemen and Sucuk. Menemen is scrambled eggs mixed with tomatoes, while Sucuk is some kind of fermented sausage which came at Room Eleven also with scrambled eggs. All breakfast combinations included a hot drink, an idea I loved. Since Room Eleven was obviously Turkish, I got myself a Turkish coffee for breakfast. What a treat, drinking Turkish coffee made that day feel like a holiday.
I ordered Bro’s Eleven, which combined everything that was available on the menu in one breakfast. I wanted to try Menemen, which sounded delicious and also tasted so. What a beautiful combination, rich in flavor and not watery at all from the tomatoes. The plate included rather bland cheese, bland cold cut, feta, olives, tomatoes, cucumber, butter, jam, Nutella, and honey. The choice was fabulous and I finished my meal with a butter Nutella combination. So yummy, and if you haven’t tried it, then give it a chance.
My friend ordered the Sucuk pan, but received the same as I did. The big plate got sent back and was replaced by a smaller one with olives and cheese. He was certainly not impressed with the service as his ordered lemonade didn’t arrive at all. Also the Sucuk wasn’t a winner for him.
What surprised me the most were the bread rolls. They looked exactly like the ones you get in the supermarket to finish baking at home. While I am not really into that, I remember them always being dry. These ones had a lovely color and crust, plus had a great texture on the inside.
There’s no need to get yourself to Simmering for a good breakfast, but while in the area Room Eleven is worth a visit. I enjoyed the Menemen immensely, but could have done without the sliced cheese and cold cut. Service at Room Eleven was very friendly, though confused and inattentive. Which was not understandable with almost no other customers in the café lounge. Yours, Pollybert
