What else to do in Siargao

Siargao is a famous surf spot, so what better place than here to start learning. Since I didn’t manage to surf long enough to get a decent picture out of it, I cannot show you the local surf spot. In any case that should not discourage you to try it. Despite falling from the board over and over again, I enjoyed it so much that I booked a second lesson. Which says a lot about my instructor Aaron and the happiness you can find on a board.

Despite the beach in front of my hotel not being optimal for swimming, there are other beaches nearby. You will need a scooter or a Tuk Tuk to get there, walking was definitely out of the question. We tried first the long beach of General Luna, the access to tit was right next to ‘The Barrel‘, a beachfront sports bar.

If you drive along the main road in most areas you cannot see the beach. So you need to know where to access the beach in the General Luna area. The long beach is really long with almost white sand. Unfortunately we arrived during low tide, which was definitely the worst time to get to the beach. There were also no loungers or umbrellas available, for that you need to get yourself to a beach resort.

Another beach, about 15 minutes south of General Luna, is the secret beach. And this one is well worth the trip. The secret beach was exactly like I imagined all beaches in the Philippines to look. White sand, turquoise water, and palm trees for shade. How great is that?

Finally I got my beach day on this island and it was beautiful! Despite a short shower, which we spent waiting in the water, it was wonderful. I spent most of the time reading in the water, there is something magical to it.

Besides a couple of nice beaches and being a hot spot for surfing, Siargao also has a lively nightlife. Best of all the partying was walking home later at night and looking into the starry sky. But that’s just me. Yours, Pollybert
