The Single Girl’s To-do List by Lindsey Kelk: A good chick lit from time to time his like a palate cleanser for gourmets. One cannot alway read “serious” stuff. Lindsey Kelk is known for her “I Heart New York” series and even here one of her other characters pops up. The romance in the book is actually quite secondary but the way to it is funny and fluffy. The supporting characters are lovely and so over-the-top that you can’t help but envying their friendship. Perfect for a rainy weekend!
Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan: Two days after finishing it I am still not sure what it was about. The characters are likeable but not relatable and their quest to translate the “Codex Vitae” is weird. As a book lover though I liked the description of the book shop and the reading room. That would make one hell of a library. Not even the subplot love story could elevate the book, maybe that’s why I rather played Wordbrain over Christmas.
Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple: I really liked how the story unfolded. To see the impact on a marriage of one partner working too much and the other one withdrawing from social life. In between the prodigy child from whose perspective the story is told. The supporting characters are enhancing the overall interesting drama and you will learn a lot about Antarctica. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
Wife 22 by Melanie Gideon: How far are you willing to let things slide, to let yourself go and pine for someone else when you are in a committed relationship/marriage? And what are you willing to do to turn things around? All these questions and many more ponders “Wife 22” a willing participant in survey about her marriage until everything is a lot more complicated. Quick and entertaining story!
