Books

Almost Heaven by Judith McNaught: All good things come in threes. So this was book three of the ‘Sequels Series’. Not really sure where this name stems from, but whatever. Ian and Elizabeth make an interesting pairing, especially since there is a spark right from the beginning. I liked as well that couple from book number two made quite an appearance, although the explanation to their connection was incorrect. The couple from book number one btw had vanished completely. ‘almost Heaven’ is funny and a quick read, can’t ask for more.

Der Brand by Daniela Krien: What makes a good marriage? This is the question that comes to mind when reading about Rahel and Peter. The booked vacation home burned down and with it their vacation. They end up watching the home of friends and taking care of a menagerie of animals. That change of scenery opens Rahel’s eyes and with it her understanding for her husband, her children, and her parents. It’s quite an accomplishment with rather subtle hints for the reader as well. I really enjoyed reading the book!

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune: Don’t you just love it when you find a book that captures you from beginning to end? Percy and Sam are really interesting characters, although sometimes Sam seemed way too intensive for his age. I also thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions of the lake and the summer and the endless swimming. Maybe it’s the miserable weather at the moment, but it made me long for relaxing on the dock with them. Excellent book!

All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata: This was my first book by Mariana Zapata, but it will not be my last. I really enjoyed the story of Aurora and Rhodes and loved especially how the chemistry between these two was always intense but never too much. What got a bit annoying were the inner monologues of Aurora. I mean, I understand that she had a lot to think about, but Rhodes was also interesting and had a good back story, but never got the same space. Still, a very enjoyable book.
