Breakfast at Café Caché

On my first visit to Café Caché I fell in love with the little restaurant. The small corner place offered great food and charming service. Breakfast was only available during the week at that time. So when I noticed that this had changed and Café Caché now had brunch on the weekend, I was ready.

On this warm summer day we found a table underneath the tree on the right side. The waiter arrived immediately with a jug of water and two glasses, very much appreciated in this warm weather. The breakfast menu is small and not really interesting. The choice was difficult, because there wasn’t much to choose from and nothing I really liked. In the end I ordered a galette with sauteed vegetables, cheese, and salad, as well as a fried egg and bacon as add on. That’s how little the menu offered, because usually I try to avoid a galette.

Once it arrived my breakfast looked quite okay. The bacon though didn’t convince me already at first glance. I like it fried, and this one was not fried at all. It had a rather dry texture and didn’t taste much of bacon actually. Unfortunately the galette didn’t fare much better. It was thin and brittle on the corners, not so much fun. I also found there were too many carrots inside, and not enough of the promised broccoli and cauliflower. Overall though, this was just not my kind of breakfast.

My friend got the feta cheddar scone with a fried egg, hot sauce, pickled vegetables, and salad. He also ordered extra bacon. What arrived appeared at first glance quite similar to the dish I had ordered. Same salad, same egg. Which is unfair to say, because naturally this must look the same. The scone sounded so promising to him, but turned out to be rather boring as well. The cheese was in the dough of the scone. I guess he didn’t taste much of it, because he searched under the fried egg for it. But there was nothing besides the egg to see. Very minimalist to say the least.

Once we had payed and left the coffeehouse, we noticed a little sign on the other side of Café Caché. The board announced two extra breakfast dishes for brunch, which I would have loved to get my hands on. I am not really sure why the waiter didn’t point out the available brunch options to us.

After a successful first visit for dinner, breakfast was something totally different. Will I come again? Probably. I saw the toasted dark bread with fresh tomatoes and pesto at another table and it looked enticing. Also I want to give Café Caché another chance for breakfast. Yours, Pollybert
