Breakfast at Do-An am Naschmarkt

Despite roaming the Naschmarkt for years I haven’t reviewed Do-An am Naschmarkt before. I am not sure why I have ignored it, because I’ve been here before. Quite often actually come to think of it. Do-An is in the same row of stalls as Neni and Orient Occident, and right across from Deli. There are also a couple of other breakfast spots just around the corner. So it’s either a conscious decision or where you find a table that you end up. On that Saturday it was a decision my friend took, because at such an early hour you get a table everywhere. Inside or outside.

Do-An am Naschmarkt offers a couple of breakfast combinations, which all include a hot drink. We both ordered omelettes though that morning. I got the vegetarian omelette, which included three eggs, zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes, arugula, and goat cheese. The omelette looked delicious, maybe because the sun was shining on it. It definitely had a healthy glow.

Funnily enough the omelette didn’t taste of much. I had to season it with a lot of salt and even pepper, something I usually avoid, the get some taste out of it. There was a certain watery taste here, and not even the goat cheese came through. Which was weird since goat is such a strong flavor usually. I liked the little side salad best. It might have been a nutritious breakfast, but it certainly wasn’t special.

My friend ordered the farmer’s version of the omelette, which included potatoes, tomatoes, and sheep cheese (aka feta cheese). I didn’t see any tomatoes in his omelette, but there were certainly a lot of potatoes. Personally I think we both got the same cheese, since he told me his omelette didn’t taste much either.

Breakfast at Do-An am Naschmarkt was unfortunately on the boring side. Too bad really since the service was friendly and attentive. Our waiter even came over and asked how we liked the food. But what’s there to say once the plate is in front of you? I just wish the chef would be a little bit more adventurous when it comes to seasoning. It’s not too much to ask for some flavor. Still, Do-An am Naschmarkt is a nice place to sit. The coffee was tasty and overall it had a very relaxed atmosphere. Yours, Pollybert
