Even though Café Menta is not really downtown, it’s not that far away either. Everything within walking distance from a metro station counts as easily accessible in my book.

terrace @Café Menta
At 9am on a Saturday morning Café Menta was still quiet, when we left an hour later it busier but still had tables available. Maybe people in this area just sleep a bit longer on the weekend.

inside @Café Menta
The lone waiter was quick to arrive and in no time coffee stood before us. It was actually kind of relaxing to sit in an empty place and look out these large windows. The sun was shining and outside it was bitter cold, but inside it was warm and comfortable. Maybe it was this coziness that inspired me to order the ‘Picknick’ breakfast, which included a scrambled eggs-zucchini-feta muffin, three kinds of spreads, Crudités, and baguette.

‘Picknick’ breakfast @Café Menta
The muffin wasn’t much of a muffin and was actually rather bland. The spreads were quite delicious though and seemed to home-made. Especially the tomato spread as well as the herbal spread were dlovely. The one with pumpkin seed oil had a sweet note, which I didn’t appreciate. The baguette was soft and reminded me more of a long ciabatta bread. The Crudités looked fresh and had no refrigerator aroma. Overall I was quite pleased with my choice, although I wouldn’t order it again.
My friend was in the mood for an ‘English’ breakfast, which includes at Café Menta grilled Halloumi, bacon, a fried egg, roasted potatoes, beans in tomato sauce, and toast. That is quite the variation on the usual English breakfast fare, but was a welcome change. My friend was pleased with grilled cheese as well as the beans. It’s nice to see that restaurants can put their own spin on certain dishes and come away with it. Usually there’s much complaining when something differs from an expected dish, but at Café Menta it was a lovely surprise. It all tasted remarkable well together.

English breakfast @Café Menta
Café Menta might not be the hipster café, but it serves a good breakfast. It has a lot of breakfast combinations and well as very interesting extras. Beans on toast is so quintessentially English, but I’ve not seen that anywhere in Vienna so far. At Café Menta it’s on the menu. Definitely something I would like to try next time. Because there will be one, that’s for sure. Yours, Pollybert
