The timber-framed houses across Rouen were a sight to behold. The leaning houses are from before 1520. After that this kind of building style was forbidden due to health reasons. The black death aka the plague decimated the population and made architectural changes necessary. Therefore it was no longer possible to build the upper floors leaning over the lower ones.
But no matter if leaning or not leaning, these houses were wonderful. Most of them come in single color them, timber-frame and windows in the same color. But some show courage and go with different colors. I really enjoy these kinds of houses, maybe because we do not have any in Vienna.
