I have arrived in Marrakesh today. Had a very exciting day yesterday, realizing that my return ticket had been changed by 4 days from December 4th to the 8th and an overnight stay in Zurich. Quite a surprise from Swiss air. But a quick phone call changed all that to a round trip from Marrakesh via Casablanca via Frankfurt to Vienna. How fabulous! Will take me a day to get back on time.
But no complaint now, am sitting in a cafè with the perfect view on the place Jemaa el-Fna.
Have also noticed that my French comes in handy. Haven’t talked that much since my conversation class in 2003. And people are super friendly although I get the impression they all think I am looking for a man. Which is not true at the moment, but this is another story.
So far Marrakesh is loud, smelly (like butter gone rancid), colorful, friendly, spicy and overall exciting. Definitely not the right place to calm down and relax. My pulse is constantly going faster, have to check left and right not to get killed by horses, bikes and motor cycles.
The pick up with my guide worked out just fine. He seems very nice and I am sure I will have a perfectly good time with him on the tour. He checked me into a small little Riad called Orientale. Right next to the famous place but also super quiet. Slept for 2 hours this afternoon cause was exhausted after getting up at 4:30 this morning.
Tomorrow pick up at 9am to go to Casablanca and then Meknes.
I will go and enjoy Marrakesh by night with dinner and tea, yours Pollybert
