Life around the central market is busy. First of all you have the central market with its many stalls and small eateries. But there also numerous restaurants around the market. And they have the advantage of longer opening times.
My friend had eyed Boatella Tapas from the first day when we passed it on the way to our apartment. She loved the way it looked and when she then found it recommended in her guide-book, she just felt confirmed in her great judgement. Eventually we made it there to lunch on our last day. I have to be honest here, I would have totally eaten somewhere else on that day. But I am very glad that she held us to our promise to go to Boatella. The food was just amazing.
We started with fried shrimps and they were so crunchy and yummy that I ate them with the shell.
We got as again a plate of patatas bravas (that’s a staple in spain with a vegetarian in tow) and a plate of fried squid. The squid was perfect, lovely in taste and consistency!
When in Spain you do need to eat seafood. Lots of it. What better way than to try clams again and some other kind of clams. In a mini format. These came from the grill. Not sure how this was done but they had a smokey aroma.
I know the pictures don’t look so great. It’s possible that we started to eat before I took the photo. Sorry ;-)
Another highlight of this lunch was pan con tomate con morcilla (tomato bread with black pudding). That was so fabulous!
Boatella Tapas is best enjoyed outside. The restaurant itself is really small and only has a few high tables inside. I found the light inside not so charming. don’t worry about the line-up, it moves quickly. Just make sure you tell the waiter that you are waiting for a table. Because you need to be on the list. Without list no place, which is fun to watch when it happens to someone. Yours, Pollybert
