I love a good challenge and when it involves books, so much better. This is what I said last year and it is still true. I have noticed though that last year was particularly challenging for me when it comes to reading. I had a couple of books on my ‘plate’ which took me a while to finish. As much as I love to read non-fiction, especially when it comes to history, these are never an easy read. I get held up by secondary notes and characters, look up facts or watch movies that fit the period. So much so that in 2019 I had a book which I read for more than three months.
So although ‘Jerusalem: The Biography‘ is one of the most amazing books I have read in a long time, I got tired of it. In the end I just wanted to finish it and read something else. So one has to tread wisely with a reading challenge. You don’t want to get stuck on something just to follow and finish a challenge.
Already in 2018 and in 2019 I used the challenge more to nudge my interest in different directions. And since this worked well, here we go again with the Popsugar Reading Challenge for 2020. Let’s see how many books I can cross off this year. Have fun my fellow readers and let me know how you are faring. Yours, Pollybert
