Since traveling is still out of the question, there are no weekend trip for me in the near future. To travel at least taste wise, I try to discover new restaurants at home. So on a Friday afternoon I made my way to Madai Aperitivobeisl. I love the word aperitivo. It really says it all. You are out of the office and the fun can start. But on this day it was hot and sunny and I wanted something refreshing while sitting outside.
So I ordered a lemonade made from home-made lemongrass and ginger syrup. Delicious and just the right drink when alcohol is out of the question.
We opted for the lunch specials that day. My friend got the tagliatelle with mascarpone, lemon, and spinach, while I got the same noodles with mussels. And we got a small salad to share. Both dishes tasted great. The mussels were tender and juicy and perfectly steamed in a savory tomato broth.
Also the plate of lemony tagliatelle was a winner. Rich and creamy with a great level of acidity to cut through the fat content of the mascarpone. A lovely summer pasta. And also the salad tasted great. The dressing was spot on.
The area around the Karmelitermarkt is full of popular restaurants. I am not sure if Madai stands out amongst them. Because to form this opinion, I would need to know more restaurants around the area. But regardless I do know that Madai has a great outdoor patio and an ever-changing variety of daily pasta. This is definitely a restaurant I will visit again. Yours, Pollybert
