Austria is a really beautiful country and I have to be honest enough that I definitely don’t travel it enough. So when I had the chance to visit Straden, a village in the South of Styria (Südsteiermark sorry, only in German available), I was all for it. The occasion of said trip was a birthday party and spending some quality time together. But you don’t need a private birthday party to visit Straden and the surrounding area.
Straden is worthy on its own account. It has a couple of great vineyards, is a stone throw from the Slovenian border, and is a picturesque village. If you are looking for a place to stay, I can recommend Künstlerzimmer (soon to be named Rupert’s Room). This idyllic one bedroom apartment, the former pigsty, is newly renovated. The love for details is unmistakable Rupert’s signature. If you like what you see, you can book your host to provide a new concept for your home.
Don’t forget to explore the surroundings of your apartment. Right in front of your entrance a ‘cow’ grazes the lush pastures.
While in the back you can find a tree house. The bedroom in it is currently undergoing renovations.
And since birds like tree houses too, they get their own birdhouses all around the big one.
During our weekend we went for drinks and a concert to Weingut Engel in Tieschen. Great atmosphere and so well organized. In the end though this was our only excursion. The area around the Straden and especially the Künstlerzimmer was more than enough for all of us. Overall a relaxing way to spend a weekend. Yours, Pollybert
