Sometimes the best laid plans just collapse. Who would have thought that a breakfast at the Karmelitermarkt is full in the morning? My choice of breakfast place didn’t take reservations. So when I showed up at 9am and all tables taken, I was more than happy to just move one restaurant over and eat breakfast at Kaas am Markt.
In German the name implies the story. This cheese monger has a couple of tables outside its shop and serves some small dishes, including breakfast. There are more tables in the morning, but this picture was taken at a later time.
There are no fancy eggs Benedict here, which is very much appreciated since they have flooded the city. So we both go with scrambled eggs, my friend get his with bacon, while I got the weekly special with green asparagus, tomatoes, and Pecorino. It’s the simple things which make you happy. Both plates come with bread and butter. And both egg dishes were just right. Exactly what you want on an already warm summer morning.
The asparagus still had a bit of crunch and the tomatoes were nicely charred. I love it when the tomatoes do not leak into the egg dish. The Pecorino gave it a nice Italian touch.
The Karmelitermarkt is very charming market with lots of interesting stalls for buying produce, as well as some gastronomy. If you are a looking for breakfast in the area, you can’t go wrong with Kaas am Markt. Yours, Pollybert
