Breakfast at Naschmarkt Deli – update

For a long time Naschmarkt Deli has been my go -to breakfast place. After a while I needed some change though and we started our breakfast excursions, venturing outside of our comfort zone and trying all kinds of places for the first meal of the day. Coming back here from time to time, feels like a good thing.

The Naschmarkt was still relatively quiet early in the morning and the tourists hadn’t arrived in droves. We got one of the high tables at Deli and perused the menu. Not much has changed here, the breakfast options were basically the same as usual. Except that prices have increased manifold. It feels weird to eat the same as before, but pay double for it. Or maybe it’s just me and my salary has also doubled during that time?

I ordered the Turkish breakfast, always my favorite. One fried egg, with a slice of feta, cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, olives, a cigarette borek, butter, and honey. It comes with half a pita. I love the piping hot borek and always need to pace myself as not to burn my mouth.

The Turkish breakfast was still as tasty as ever, I quite like it that some things never change. The bread was fluffy and with butter and honey just the perfect closure for this breakfast.

My friend had always ordered the potato omelette, but this item has disappeared from the menu. Some things do apparently change here after all. So instead he ordered a feta cheese toast, which comes with a fried egg, avocado, cherry tomatoes, mini cucumber, and olives according to the menu. There was nothing mini about the cucumbers, they were exactly the same size as mine. But there was a cocktail sauce for dipping on the plate, that hadn’t received a mention on the menu. He was quite happy with his breakfast, so I assume it was good. But honestly, what could go wrong with a toast?

I still like coming to Naschmarkt Deli, especially in the summer. It’s a great place for people watching, and afterwards I enjoy shopping at the farmer’s market. The food at Naschmarkt Deli is good, but nothing special for the price asked though. I guess it’s nostalgia that makes me return to this place. Yours, Pollybert
