It was a balmy spring evening, when we arrived at Shouko Ramenbar. Warm enough to sit outside, but cool enough to order Ramen. Most people had the same idea, the large restaurant remained mostly empty, while outside almost all tables were occupied.

We started the meal with spicy cucumber salad, which was delicious in its simplicity. Sliced cucumber sticks topped with a dressing of miso paste, soy sauce, chili oil, and vinegar. Perfect finger food on a warm evening.

The Kimchi was fresh, just recently made, and despite the obligatory hint of spice there was also a freshness to it, which I absolutely loved. I ate the portion almost all by myself, I just couldn’t stop getting one more bite. This was Kimchi at its best!

We each got the Angry Chicken ramen, a clear chicken broth with Shoyu Tare (a soy based seasoning), Yuzu, chili oil, chicken filet, Szechuan pepper, Ajitama (a soy egg), bean sprouts, and sweet corn. The ramen was very tasty and not spicy in my opinion. I even loved the sweet corn in combination with the broth and the meat. The chicken was tender and juicy. All in all a very nice ramen and not heavy. Clear chicken broth is definitely my favorite.

The restaurant closes at 10pm, so around that time people get up and leave. Personally I find that a bit early if you are meeting with friends to catch up. The food though is lovely, so next time I might just pick something up or make sure to come a bit earlier. Although the restaurant has not such a comfy vibe that you want to linger. Yours, Pollybert
