Road trip USA – eating along the way Part 2

While on a road trip in the USA you rely solely on your restaurant choices for a well balanced meal. For the first couple of days I think we did a remarkable job, let’s see what the next days brought us. Yours, Pollybert

Stop 5: Breakfast at West Side Market Café – Cleveland, Ohio

This lovely breakfast spot inside the West Side Market served bottomless coffee and soda. That’s something I really enjoyed since in Austria you have to pay every cup or glass extra. I ordered Biscuits & Gravy while my friend got the Hot Mess. My buttermilk biscuits came topped with sausage gravy, two eggs of your choice and homefries. I liked it, although the appeal was not there at first  glance. This could have also gone through as a hot mess by the looks of it.

The American teenager deemed this dish only okay, his father apparently makes it a lot better.

The Hot Mess was a pile of homefries topped with scrambled eggs, cheddar, bacon, the same sausage gravy as mine, and served with a choice of toast. It kind of looked the same as mine, both dishes messy in a way. My friend liked it as well. This sausage gravy doesn’t look like much, but was certainly tasty.

Stop 6: Dinner at Seva Kitchen & Bar – Niagara Falls, New York

I am not sure why I don’t have any pictures from our dining experience at Seva. It might have something to do with the two drinks I had before we even ordered. The drinks were good, although I enjoyed my regular Gin& Tonic the most. We shared among other things an excellent flatbread with with Basil Pesto and not so great Shrimp Tacos. The Hickory Bacon Smash Burger got devoured in no time, the Tropical Salad made less of an impression. But it was the service, which was outstanding. Our waitress went above and beyond to make us happy on the patio as the upstairs restaurant was fully booked.

Stop 7: Breakfast at Betty’s – Buffalo, New York

After an exhilarating morning on the Maid of the Mist we left Niagara Falls and headed to Betty’s for breakfast. The menu sounded fantastic and there was lots to choose from. I went with shrimp grits, which was definitely not the best choice. A couple of overcooked shrimps with jalapeño, a brick of cheese grits, a poached egg, and two slices of toast. Not the most interesting breakfast.

The breakfast burrito lacked color, but was well received, the salmon bagel kind of difficult to eat, but I heard no complaints about the taste and the tofu scramble looked like a mess (not so hot). I gibe Betty’s some brownie points for effort, but the food was mediocre.

Stop 8: Dinner at Graffiti Pizza – Camelback Resort, Tannersville

This pizza place is one of the many restaurants within the Camelback Resort, right next to the arcades. The level of comfort here was subpar, but the pizza was actually quite taste. We got a Greek salad, fried mozzarella sticks, fried cheese curds, and shared a Marinara and a Pepperoni pizza. Even though Graffiti Pizza advertises with wood fired pizza, i am not sure if any wood fired flame licked this pizza dough. Still, it was not too bad especially in combination with the salad.
