Olive café & concept store already celebrated its first birthday in June, so it was high time to finally give it a try. Last Saturday we arrived right at 9am and there were already a few people waiting. Within half an hour the place had filled up and by the time we left it looked completely packed.

The terrace, however, never filled up on this rather chilly August morning. Still, some habits require an outdoor spot and I am usually a supportive friend.

The breakfast menu is concise, offering four different open-faced sandwiches, an omelette, porridge, a Mediterranean platter and a meze plate. I found it a bit early for the meze and sandwiches I can easily make at home, so I opted for the Mediterranean platter which comes with either fried or scrambled eggs and a slice of bread.

ordering at the bar @olive café & concept store
My friend had already ordered his coffee at the bar, but when it was brought to our table the waiter also took our food order and later served it as well. I was a bit confused since I had read somewhere that you needed to order inside, but that was not the case during our visit.

The food took a little while, but once it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The platter was beautifully arranged with cured ham, parmesan, feta, olives, cucumber and radish slices, arugula, tomatoes and hummus. It looked quite similar to a meze plate, but the meze here comes without meat. The fried egg was cooked perfectly and the bread came warm.

The hummus was clearly homemade, less creamy than usual with a slightly granular texture. Not in a bad way at all, it was well seasoned and delicious. The vegetables were fresh, the tomatoes especially flavorful and everything paired wonderfully with the egg. The only disappointment for me was the bread. It was soft rather than toasted, with no crunch, and had been drizzled with oil. A bit odd, I thought.
We went inside to pay, since by then the café was buzzing and the staff looked busy. That gave me the chance to check out the open-faced sandwiches and the sweet treats on display. Everything looked tempting.

what else is available @olive café & concept store
Olive café & concept store is a lovely spot that I will definitely return to. The food is high quality and the menu well curated, making it perfect for a coffee and a snack. With drinks on offer too it is also a nice option for an early after work stop. Yours, Pollybert
