Despite the location of the coffeehouse La Plume next to a metro station, this was my first time coming to this area. But it is never too late to try something new, and with a mix of Lebanese and French cuisine, I was more than happy to give this one a go.

The weather was nice enough to grab one of the tables outside. Although we had a reservation at 9am, there was still a choice between several tables. We made good use of that, changing our table twice as the sun was catching up with us.

La Plume offers a couple of combinations that come with a warm drink, but in the end I decided against it and ordered Eggs Benedict with extra ham. The egg dish here is vegetarian in their standard version, served with avocado mash, tomatoes and arugula.
The two poached eggs nestled on pumpkin seed bread, with some nice looking Hollandaise sauce on top, which definitely looked homemade.

In hindsight, the eggs would probably have been better without the generic ham. The eggs and the Hollandaise sauce were fantastic. Nowadays I easily get enthused the moment something is homemade. The pumpkin seed bread, unfortunately, was too thick and a bit hard to cut through. The tomato slice added a bit of slipperiness to the whole thing, and suddenly cutting became almost impossible.
As much as I would have liked to love this dish, I did not. The tomato was too much, and the ham and the bread ruined it for me. I ate it all nonetheless, but this was a rather strange Eggs Benedict dish.
My friend ordered Shakshuka, and I have to say it really looked just perfect. It came with the same pumpkin seed bread as my dish, but here the bread seemed to work. Two eggs had been cooked in the tomato sauce, with a generous amount of feta on top. What is not to like here, one might ask?
As it turned out, the tomato sauce contained not only peppers and onions, but also leeks and carrots. It tasted more like a vegetarian Bolognese sauce without the spaghetti. That was not really what he wanted for breakfast.

The only thing that did not look good at La Plume was the coffee. My Americano lacked any crema and, unfortunately, tasted as weak as it looked.

The service was very friendly, and the food arrived promptly. La Plume filled up during the time we spent there in the morning, so it is definitely popular with the neighbors.
The pastries inside looked enticing, and if I come again, I might just stick to cake. Best of all, though, La Plume still has affordable prices. Yours, Pollybert
