Die Serviette – permanently closed

I am always on the lookout for a good restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. Especially in my area. So the other day I walked into ‘Die Serviette‘ which has the same name since the last couple of years but different owners. The last time I was here it was a winebar. Now it is back to being a restaurant which serves Austrian food.

The restaurant itself is small and manageable. I guess if it gets more popular I have to start making reservations after that. But on this evening it was early and we had no trouble getting a table.

Die Serviette offers typical Austrian fare, maybe with a bit of a twist. I ordered Zwiebelrostbraten, which is roast beef with fried onions. Here the onions were sautéed in red wine and the dish came with mashed potatoes. Comfort food on a cold evening. When I got my plate I wasn’t so much into the presentation. Zwiebelrostbraten usually looks different. But after a first taste it didn’t matter. The meat was tender and the onion sauce was so good! If I had been alone, I would have licked the plate. That was delicious!

My friend meanwhile had ordered fried blck pudding on salad and was served a generous helping as well. The freshly grated horseradish made her eyes water. What a difference to most places which serve it from the jar. The blood sausage was creamy and well seasoned inside.

What a pleasant surprise this little restaurant turned out to be. I therefore made already a reservation for another evening while there. In short, this is home-cooking at its best. Yours, Pollybert
