Despite the sunny morning, I found it too cold to sit outside for breakfast at Sopherl am Naschmarkt. The restaurant has only recently reopened under new management after standing empty for a couple of years. Breakfast is available all day long until 6 p.m., so even the latest risers can still enjoy a plate of eggs.

A reservation at this time was clearly not necessary, but that might change soon once people realize there is a new breakfast spot at the Naschmarkt.

The friendly waiter took our order, and in no time coffee arrived at our table in sunny yellow cups. The color alone was enough to brighten anyone’s day. The Americano at Sopherl am Naschmarkt was excellent; usually, the espresso is diluted too much, but here the ratio was just right.

To switch up my usual breakfast order, I chose the New York Style bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and onions. When it arrived, I noticed there was also a quail egg on top.

Despite looking heavily toasted, the bagel had the perfect consistency, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Of course, it tasted quite different from what you would get in New York, but it was lovely nonetheless. There was plenty of smoked salmon and cream cheese so the bread didn’t overpower the dish, and the capers and pickled onions added a lively touch. It was a very enjoyable breakfast.
My friend ordered ‘The American Way‘, which included three fried eggs, crispy bacon, hash browns, and toast. The hash browns looked more like the Austrian version, tasty but not quite what the name suggested. The bacon, however, was perfect. Thicker than usual and wonderfully crispy. Together with the sour cream, it made for a delectable plate.

Sopherl am Naschmarkt left a very good impression. The service was friendly, and both breakfast dishes were flavorful and satisfying. Expectations might have been a bit different after reading the menu, but the taste and quality were definitely there. This is a great option for starting your day at the Naschmarkt. Yours, Pollybert
