Breakfast at Bizù

Bizù now occupies the space where Figar once was, a place where I had breakfast a couple of times. I might have liked it best on my first visit, but I went back nonetheless. Whether the new name means a change in ownership or just a rebranding, I cannot say.

In any case, I was here to try it and tell you all about it. At nine in the morning we were the only guests, but the waiter was friendly and quick to take our order. The restaurant itself looked unchanged, although the menu seems to have been updated. Our breakfast arrived within minutes, perhaps because we were still the only occupied table or because much of the food is prepared in advance.

I ordered eggs Benedict. At Bizù this is one poached egg on a large slice of sourdough bread topped with warm slices of tomato, wilted spinach, supposedly crispy bacon, and a garnish of sauce Hollandaise. The decorative drizzle of the sauce gave me a feeling of déjà vu, although I could not place where I had seen the same odd “Jackson Pollock” style before.

The combination was surprisingly tasty, although I doubt the sauce was homemade. It was also served rather cool, but since the tomatoes had been warmed in the pan and the spinach was hot as well, I did not mind so much. The spinach could have been washed more carefully, as I noticed a bit of grit, and the bacon was not crispy at all. Still, overall I enjoyed this version of eggs Benedict and found it quite good.

My friend chose the combo “Working Class Hero,” a variation on the classic English breakfast. It came with mini cheese sausages, mushrooms, red onions, wilted spinach, mild chili peppers, tomatoes, baked beans, a fried egg, organic butter, and slices of sourdough bread. It sounded enormous, but in the end there were mostly beans and only small amounts of everything else. My friend loved it nonetheless and finished every bite.

The name may have changed, but Bizù still delivers a tasty breakfast much like its predecessor. Once the nearby construction is finished the restaurant should also get its terrace back, though it will be too cold to enjoy it for the next few months. In any case Bizù is a pleasant breakfast spot and I recommend making a reservation. Yours, Pollybert
