Breakfast at Das Columbus

I don’t think I have ever been to the 10th district for breakfast. But when I left the city by train, it was quite convenient to eat at a place near the train station. Das Columbus is within walking distance from the station and was therefore the optimal choice. Situated in a pedestrian zone with a large terrace the restaurant has all the necessary requirements for a relaxed breakfast spot.

The breakfast menu is long and offers a lot of breakfast favorites, including Shakshuka, eggs Benedict, and some vegan options. Even better, if you like to sleep in, breakfast is available until 4pm. We opted for eggs Benedict and ‘Volle Kraft Voraus’, which is some kind of breakfast sandwich. There was one waiter for this large terrace, and while we feared the worst, we were taught better. In no time our drinks arrived and we ordered our breakfast choices.

My friend had ordered eggs Benedict, which was a really generous portion. Two slices of toasted dark bread topped with roasted ham, baby spinach leaves, two poached eggs, and a generous helping of sauce Hollandaise.

My friend loved it and even tough I didn’t try it, I have to say it looked yummy.

But I am not complaining here because my ‘Volle Kraft Voraus‘ was excellent as well. Between two toasted ‘Joseph Brot‘ slices nestled roasted ham, roasted bacon, a fried egg, spinach leaves, and tomato slices. Avocado mash coated the inside of the bread slices.

Even though they provided wet wipes, I opted to use cutlery. Just a lot less messy and way easier to scoop the Chipotle sauce out of the small jar and smear it on my sandwich. I really liked it! Everything was roasted nicely, I liked the sauce on the side, which kept the sandwich crunchy, but when used added a nice kick. Fresh ingredients, good bread, and a slightly runny egg. What more can you want?

When we left the ‘Das Columbus’ was full, at least on the terrace. No wonder though, it has a great breakfast menu and the food was delicious. Really, the next time I am taking the train, I will come a little bit earlier and try something else from the menu. Yours, Pollybert
