What’s better than strolling through a park in sunny weather on the weekends? A park with a restaurant of course. In the Türkenschanzpark you can find the ‘Meierei Diglas im Türkenschanzpark’ and this place was super busy on weekend. We arrived of course without a reservation after strolling through the park for a while. Although I had been out for breakfast already, I felt inclined to sit down and drink something at least.

Although it was still afternoon and the perfect time for coffee and cake, once I saw the fried chicken on the menu I was instantly in the mood for that. Of course coffee wouldn’t work with a fried chicken, so instead I ordered sour shandy (mixed with soda rather than lemonade). And isn’t beer the perfect drink to recharge your batteries?

The fried chicken arrived promptly and I was appreciating its golden color. Instead of cranberries I opted for ketchup. Since living in Canada this is my vice, fried food with ketchup. Not really a done thing in Austria, but there you have it.

The de-boned chicken had marinated in buttermilk mixed with lovage before it got battered and fried. The marinade still clung to some bits and it added a delicious flavor. Personally I also prefer the de-boned parts to the breast, as the darker meat is way juicier. The chicken was really, really tasty and I finished both my pieces.
The potato salad with pumpkin seed oil and lambs lettuce on top was another thing though. The lambs lettuce was nicely dressed and fresh, but the potato salad had seen better days. Either it was the rest of the bunch or it’s just not good a Meierei Diglas. There was way too much dressing in my salad bowl and not enough potatoes. Also I dislike when the pumpkin seed oil is mixed with the dressing. I prefer the oil poured over the finished salad. Too bad really that the salad couldn’t compare with the chicken. Next time I might just order potatoes on the side with my fried chicken.
Service was very friendly and I appreciated the efficient seating of all waiting patrons. Our drinks and food arrived in no time despite a full garden and a constant influx of new customers. My visit of Meier Diglas was the crowning finish of a walk around Türkenschanzpark. What a pleasant surprise. Yours, Pollybert
