The Goal by Elle Kennedy: The last book in the ‘Off Campus’ series brings Tucker and Sabrina together. As cute as Tucker is in the TV adaptation, he has very little in common with the Tucker from the books. I’m curious to see how that will work on screen. In the novels he has auburn hair and, at least at the beginning, sports a beard. Their relationship is a little unconventional since they unexpectedly become parents very early on and have to figure things out from there. While I enjoyed their story, it was also the least believable of the series. Juggling law school, a baby, and opening a bar all at the same time seems a bit far-fetched. Still, it was a quick, entertaining read.
The Chase by Elle Kennedy: This is the first book in the ‘Briar U’ series and if the name rings a bell, you are totally right. Briar U is the same college from the Off Campus series, although this time the focus shifts to a new group of characters. Some familiar faces return, including Summer, Dean’s sister from book three of Off Campus, and Fitzy, who also appeared in the previous series. Hockey is still front and center because, honestly, who likes American football anyway? Summer transfers to Briar U and ends up sharing a house with three guys. You can probably imagine that this leads to plenty of drama. I also appreciated that the story gives ADHD a meaningful role rather than treating it as a minor character trait.
The Risk by Elle Kennedy: Book two of the ‘Briar U’ series follows Brenna and Jake. Brenna is the daughter of hockey coach Jensen, while Jake is the star player on the Harvard team. The two first meet through Summer, the heroine of book one, and they definitely do not get along. When they cross paths again, sparks fly, although not in the best way at first. The attraction between them is undeniable, and their chemistry is excellent. The book had several laugh out loud moments but also delivered genuine emotion, making it a very enjoyable read.
The Play by Elle Kennedy: I spent the first few days of my beach holiday with Hunter and Demi. I was already familiar with Hunter from the ‘Off Campus’ series and he also makes an appearance in The Chase. In the third ‘Briar U’ novel, he finally gets his own story, and there is much more to him than just being the rich hockey player. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Hunter and Demi, even if I found parts of the plot a little hard to believe. Then again, as long as a book is entertaining, I can overlook a few unlikely situations. I can’t wait to start the final book in the series.
