The best beach restaurants around Karpathos

A good beach is important on your vacation. But what makes it special is the restaurant that goes along with it. I have noticed that quite often around Greece. Sometimes the best restaurants are directly on the beach or within walking distance. So it makes sense to choose your beach and its restaurant accordingly. Because even if you don’t want to eat lunch there, you might want to stop for an early dinner. You are on vacation, after all. Yours, Pollybert

See here for my favorite beaches on Karpathos.

Taverna Agios Theodoros: The taverna is basically on the way to the beach and, while it is within walking distance, it is probably best if you plan your visit before or after the beach. While I don’t have a picture of the restaurant itself, I do have one of the chapel right next to it.

Please note that on Sundays after church, the restaurant is busy with locals. Which is always a good sign, but make sure to get there on time. Because elderly ladies in black, which is the best endorsement for a place here, take up quite a lot of tables on Sunday.

We loved the restaurant as well as the beach, but especially the restaurant. So we came back after a first afternoon snack of ouzo and some appetizers.

The taverna was a really nice place to sit and enjoy the sun after it had already set on the beach. The view of the sea with a glass of ouzo could not be better.

On our return visit, we ate a late lunch and shared another Greek salad, followed by red beets, octopus in vinegar, and chicken and pork souvlaki with French fries on the side. Absolutely a lovely meal!

Xopetro Beach Bar: Directly on Antiperatos Beach, you can find Xopetro Beach Bar, which has a great terrace overlooking the sea. Since we spent the afternoon here, we only ate a snack and accompanied it with some beer, as we still had a long way to go back to Arkasa on the west side of the island.

When we see something new on a menu, we always need to order it. So here we got some caper salad, salted fish, and zucchini balls with yogurt. The salted fish is definitely an acquired taste and not something I would order again. But it is apparently a specialty on the island.

Ammos restaurant: At our favorite beach, Lefkos North Bay Beach, we only tried one restaurant. The first time we came here, we had just eaten at Taverna Eklekton, which is near the Roman cistern and not at all near the beach. The second time, we tried Ammos Restaurant, and the third time we went back to Eklekton.

The meal itself wasn’t remarkable, but here we tried local shrimps, and they were absolutely divine.
