I have been a fan of Das Drittl ever since I first tried their food at the Loup Garou pop up, accompanied by some very tasty drinks. Later, they moved into a bakery in the 9th district, where they started serving dinner, and now they have taken over the unlucky Café Florianihof.

The terrace outside was empty on this gloomy morning, but so was the bright and friendly interior at this hour. The restaurant filled up during the one hour we spent here, and by the time we left, two thirds of the tables were occupied by families with kids.

Full disclosure, this was already my second visit. Shortly before I flew to Naxos, we came here to give it a try shortly after it opened, but the kitchen failed to deliver our breakfast within the hour we had available, so we left without eating. Since I really wanted to try the food, I made another reservation for three weeks later, and here we are.
We ordered coffee, and my friend also got an apple shrub, a kind of syrup that is fermented in the kitchen and then mixed with water. While waiting for our drinks, I noticed that our table had not been cleaned and still showed the signs of the previous night’s revelries. Not a great start to the meal.

My friend got bacon and eggs with chive bread, while I ordered the breakfast burger. Funnily enough, this was exactly what we had ordered on our previous visit. The food, on the other hand, arrived within twenty minutes this time, so all was fine. Meanwhile, the tables next to us filled up while the front of the restaurant remained empty. I really don’t understand the concept of seating people right next to each other when the restaurant is practically empty. But who knows, there might be some science behind it.
The bacon and eggs looked a bit puny, but there were three egg yolks, so that seemed fine. The bacon, three rashers, had clearly been cooked beforehand and then added on the side. Which is kind of weird, as usually one fries the eggs on top of the bacon. Also, three euros extra for this amount of bacon is quite steep. But overall, my friend seemed happy enough with his meal.

I had ordered the breakfast burger which comes at Das Drittl in a croissant and has some hash browns on the side. The hash browns are change from the avocado that is listed in the menu. I guess potatoes are a lot cheaper than fruits. The croissant was filled with an omelette, some American processed cheese, and the same bacon as above. There was also some kind of spicy chili sauce on the top half of the croissant and lots of green stuff.

The burger was actually really tasty. The bacon got a bit lost in all of this, but overall, it was delicious. The green herbs gave it all a nice crunch, as the rest was rather soft and mushy. The omelette was super fluffy, just the way I like it, and the processed cheese added a gooeyness to it all. The chili sauce provided a hint of extra oompf. I was more than happy with my choice.
I really do hope Das Drittl is here to stay and will fill the Florianihof with life, after the last coffeehouse in here failed to make it either. It is such a beautiful space that it would be a shame to see it close again. Das Drittl has the best qualifications for success, with its young team and boundless enthusiasm for hospitality and good food. Yours, Pollybert
