Pegasus restaurant

On my second evening in Tallinn, which was a Sunday, I decided to have dinner in the old town. Right across the street from the tourist information, is the restaurant Pegasus. I had made a reservation beforehand from Vienna which was a good idea since the place was quite full. Also I like to have a plan on where to go instead of looking for something while hungry.

I ordered my tried and trusted Gin Tonic as I always do when I know nothing about local wine and am not in the mood for beer. G&T works with food as well, don’t tell me anything different. True to Nordic tradition I got a jug of water as well, this one infused with cucumber. Home-made and butter rounded out my welcome.

For a starter I got the Pegasus boeuf á la tar-tar which came with kimchi aioli, a quail egg, marinated shimeji mushrooms, arugula salad and crispy bread. The finely hand-cut beef was so great, I was in heaven. Which is weird because usually I like it minced better. But the fresh combination of fermented aioli, mushrooms and spicy greens worked exceedingly well.

For main course I ordered fish. I got the halibut with miso-cauliflower purée, mini-broccoli and mango with spicy herbs. An overall light dish with no carbs. The purée had a lovely, silky texture and worked fine extremely well with the fish. Combine that with the mango salsa and it was pure foodie bliss. Despite no carbs I felt full and sated.

So no more dessert for me. What I got though with my bill was a handwritten note from my waitress, wishing me a wonderful evening. The service at Pegasus restaurant could not have been nicer. Really such an overall delight. Yours, Pollybert
