Breakfast at Erich (update)

Erich is really cool bar/restaurant in the 7th district. It’s a cozy place in winter and for summer it has a really nice terrace. But honestly during a pandemic the seating is quite tight. I am happy that we arrived at 9am and left not even an hour later. The place was filling up and there was definitely not enough distance between the tables.

So while we enjoyed our breakfast in relative peace and with enough distance, this was over shortly before 10am. The breakfast menu has changed a bit since my last visit and I noticed Benny Eggs on the menu. So of course I was all for ordering them. Who doesn’t want to eat that for breakfast? But maybe not here.

The eggs come on a very thick slab of brioche and just a drizzle of sauce Hollandaise. Honestly if I wanted to eat dry toast, I would have ordered one. In the end I ate the eggs and the salad and left the brioche. Also the tomato salsa straight out of the fridge is not a great idea when the whole dish is not really warm to begin with. So no, these eggs left me wanting. But not here.

Because me friend ordered the breakfast tacos and was also not happy. He is not a picky eater, but rather likes a plate full of food. And while the plate was full, it all tasted of the fried tacos which was overbearing. The tacos were filled with an omelette and bacon, and had salsa and guacamole on the side. The salsa was the same as on the Benny Eggs, but the guacamole tasted good.

Overall for our last breakfast before the lockdown this was a disappointment. Maybe the restaurant just wanted to get rid of everything in the fridge, but my impression was one of bland and flat dishes. So sad that it didn’t keep its high standard. Also, what really disappointed me, was the spacing of the tables. With the pandemic in full swing, it must be in the self-interest of every restaurant owner to adhere to the regulations to keep the danger of infection as low as possible. Sorry, that was not the case here. Yours, Pollybert
