Another Saturday morning which started with the most important meal of the day, breakfast. That weekend at Yoma. This centrally located restaurant has been a one of my go-to places since forever but haven’t I haven’t really enjoyed a leisurely breakfast there. So what better idea than to go for it on a weekend.
As is now almost customary in all the ‘better’ breakfast places in Vienna, eggs Benedict are on the menu at Yoma. So of course we order that. One regular version and one with extra avocado. The terrace outside is still empty at 9pm, but most tables have a reservation sign. This is a really busy place and therefore service is very quick. Our coffee arrives and just a couple of minutes later, so do our eggs.
The eggs lie on a real English muffin, which is actually quite good. They look perfect, with crunchy bacon instead of ham. The pea sprout on top is unnecessary but who wants to complain about that. The sauce Hollandaise is obviously home-made and tastes great. The avocado comes in form of a spread underneath the eggs. My friend already loves his version of the eggs Benedict while I haven’t even tried mine.
Too bad then that when I cut into the first egg liquid gushes forward. And suddenly I understand what my friend complained about the other weekend that his eggs were to liquidy. It’s as if water is caught inside the egg white. Which is terrible of course and I am already disappointed. Also the guac style avocado does nothing to enhance the taste of the eggs, there is too much acidity. My version was really not great, while the other serving was apparently splendid.
So there you have it. If you are lucky and stick with the plain choice of eggs Benedict you might get a great dish. If you go for the creative version, you get disappointed. Therefore choose wisely. Yours, Pollybert
