Cliff walking in Étretat

We started the next leg of our tour with a lavish breakfast in the garden of the Hotel L’Ecrin in Honfleur. It might seem small but we feasted for an hour while we sat in the sun. What a great start into the day!

Our next stop was Étretat, also on the coast but famous for its cliffs. We had splurged for the next stop and booked a room at Dormy House, which sat on top of said cliffs. It was by far the most expensive hotel on the trip, but the location alone definitely worth it.

The view included a stunning sunset as well as a sweeping vista on the cliffs below. The drive from Honfleur was only around 45min and we had nothing planned for the day except a leisurely walk around said cliffs. Hence the leisurely breakfast for a change.

After parking the car we left for our cliff walk. Early on we had already decided early that we would go west and do the circular route. The route to the east needed a bus to get back to Étretat and we wanted to be flexible. But first we headed down to the beach and passed some beautiful timber-framed houses.

The circular route started on the beach, which was apparent by the many walkers up ahead. Everybody had the same idea or at least wanted to get up in the cliffs to soak in the stunning view.

The first impression was not so different from the one we had had at the hotel. But here at least we managed a selfie without any danger of falling off the cliff.

The view from above was really superb though and behind every bend some new breathtaking cliff formation awaited us.

People were sitting left and right with sandwiches and enjoying the view. Eventually we found one beach, which was easily accessible while on our circular walk and rested there for a moment. But there was still more area to cover, so without further ado or rather without a swim in the sea, we marched on.

The tour took us three and a half hours and we passed a lighthouse, which looked at first as if it stood far away from the beach.

Eventually though it made more sense.

And then we were back in the cornfields, with the lighthouse far away again.

The last part of the circular led us through endless fields. I definitely missed the coast already, albeit we were not far away. The circular route was wonderful and was the perfect afternoon activity in Étretat. Yours, Pollybert
