Cliff walking in Étretat, that’s the thing to do here. After the circular walk the day before we wanted to give the eastern side of Étretat a chance as well. We had initially decided against it, due to it being a one way track. But also the next day we did not have time to make it all the way to Yport and then take the bus back to Étretat.
But of course while in Étretat we still wanted to at least see what was going on at the other side. The picture below is not the best, but you can see the path up the eastern side and the small chapel on top.

When we took the stairs up the eastern path the sky was overcast and grey. The sunny weather from the day before had disappeared, which made the ascent also a bit easier. Looking from this side on Étretat and Dormy House was a totally different experience.

The chapel Notre Dame de la Garde was still under construction and closed so there was no point in getting close to it. The other monument up here is the ‘L’Oiseau Blanc’, which is a reminder of a plane on a transatlantic flight in 1927. It was here in Étretat that it had been seen the last time before vanishing somewhere over the Atlantic.

The cliffs on this side were certainly as impressive as on the other side and we took the time to explore a bit more. It would have been nice to have another day at Étretat to manage the second cliff walk to Yport as well.

On our way back the grey sky had opened up a bit and the surfers were out enjoying the wind.

It was time for us to leave and head back to Rouen. But before doing so there were a couple of stops on the way. One was the Manoir Du Catel. Although it said online that it was closed we decided on the small detour, since Google is not infallible and had already erred once on this trip. This manor house was a medieval building from the 13th century and we wanted to visit despite knowing anyone who had lived here.

Unfortunately the online information was correct and the manor house was really closed for visitors. At least I managed a picture from the gate before we headed to our next sightseeing stop. Yours, Pollybert
