There is a new restaurant at the Meidlinger Markt called Wirtschaft am Markt. When the small restaurant Milchbart closed I was quite unhappy about it, especially since its successor didn’t want to make any business. So next to the Saigon Bistro the market has now another great lunch (and of course dinner) place. I appreciate that so much, since lunch is my favorite meal during the week.
The Wirtschaft am Markt resides in the former market stalls of Purple Eat. The restaurant looks spacious and airy with an open kitchen. They have two lunch menus on offer as well as a couple of other dishes during the day. And for the evening they have a bigger menu to choose from. Everything on it sounded delicious in any case.

The restaurant was already very busy when we arrived shortly after noon and we snagged the last unreserved table. This is a new concept for the market which so far worked on a first come, first served basis. So while we had a table we did wait for the service a little bit. One gets the feeling they still need to adjust to all this attention.
We went with both lunch choices and got chanterelle with a herbal cream sauce and sliced bread dumplings, and marinated beef with wasabi-pea cream, radish, and salad. Both dishes were excellent, there is really nothing I could criticize. If I would have been alone I would have licked my plate. Actually make that both plates.
The four dumpling slices were slightly toasted on both sides and soaked up the delicious sauce. There were plenty of mushrooms in it as well, a bit more of the dumplings would have been nice.

The marinated beef, a staple in Vienna during summer, was super tasty. The wasabi-pea cream gave it a new twist and it was as refreshing as it was surprising. The beef was juicy and tender and just had a melt-in-your-mouth kind of texture.

The Meidlinger Markt can be happy to have such an amazing new restaurant, on the other hand I am not sure I want all this attention to one of my favorite lunch spots. Yours, Pollybert
