Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins: This is the story of Haymitch, the mentor of Katniss and Peeta in the original Hunger Games trilogy. As much as I disliked ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes‘ and really thought the milking of the Hunger Games needs to stop, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Haymitch’s story drew me in right away and I loved his character arc. The story fits well with the original books and explains his behavior in the first book. It can also be read as a standalone. Enjoyable and quick read!
What if I never get over you by Paige Toon: I was hoping for an easy chick lit to loose myself in, but this book’s characters had so many problems it wasn’t as easy as I hoped. While the loss of a friend is for most people already enough to deal with, Ellie and Ash also have overbearing parents plus other issues. No wonder these two were not relatable for me. I guess I am also not as much into a nature as I thought. Living like a hermit in the woods is definitely not my kind of thing. Not bad overall though, it was a quick read.
Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh: I am starting to get obsessed with rugby. So far this is a sport that has passed by me, I am not even sure if that is played in Austria. But reading this book about Shannon and Johnny, a gifted rugby player, kind of got me invested in the sport a little bit. As well as in ‘The Boys of Tommen’. I was more than happy when I realized that there are six books in the series. It’s an easy read and I got hooked from the start, although the writing is repetitive and I just wish some characters wouldn’t be so whiny all the time. I loved it nonetheless and will start right away with the next book of the series.
Keeping 13 by Chloe Walsh: I love this series! The Boys of Tommen have captured my heart and so far not release it. Book two follows the story of Shannon and Johnny to the end of the school year and there’s even more drama along the way. Despite everything these two manage to bring out the best in each other and keep a positive attitude. The hardships Shannon faces are unbelievable and I loved how it all took a spin for the better. What a joy to read!
