Books

Family of Liars by E. Lockhart: I am not sure when it got published, but now that I reread ‘We Were Liars’ I also wanted to give the rest of the series a go. This book was surprisingly good. Usually sequels lack a bit of the entertaining factor of the first book in a series. ‘Family of Liars’ though is a mix of sequel and prequel, which I enjoyed. Sequel is maybe a bit much, but if you have not read the first one, it contains spoilers. I really enjoyed the story of the three sisters and their weird family dynamic, it is also a very quick read.

We fell apart by E. Lockhart: This is book three of the We Were Liars series and only in the last quarter any connection to the first two books is revealed. But there is no need for it, as it does not add anything to the story. Mathilda finds out about her father and in the process meets her half-brother Meer. His mother June is the weirdest character in the series and most of her behavior is abnormal. Come to think of it, so is the behavior of the rest of the people in the story. It is a quick read, but not a must for the series.

Drive by Kate Stewart: Finally a book that had been on my virtual TBR pile since forever. While I did love the story, two guys and a girl, first love and second chances, I found some of Stella’s feelings and inner dialogs a bit much and repetitive. Also, and this might be a first for me, some of the bedroom scenes were a tad too graphic. Or maybe I just did not like the language used. But I noticed myself skipping some paragraphs, which I usually do not. Nonetheless, I cannot wait to start with the next book in line of the ‘The Bittersweet Symphony Duet’, apparently there are two more. I want to know more about Reid and his life.

Reverse by Kate Stewart: Book two of ‘The Bittersweet Symphony Duet’ turned out to be a different story altogether. Easton and Natalie are the children of the main characters of book one and meet when they find out about the love story of their parents. I could not understand the drama behind their love, there was too much back and forth and inner monologue again, it was all a bit annoying. Still, I finished it and even started with the last one in the series, because I just want to put it to rest. Would I recommend it? No, there are so many better books out there.
