Eggs Benedict are one of my favorite breakfast staple. Finding the best ones in Vienna is an adventurous journey as sometimes these things have nothing to do with the real deal. I am here to sort through the riff raff of eggs Benedict and let you know where you should actually go. Yours, Pollybert
Das Vivet: My second visit will also be my last. I did not order the eggs Benedict myself, but I saw how they looked and since I am a judgy b*tch, I had the feeling my own meal already involved some ready made parts. Why would the eggs Benedict be any different? The bread was not toasted and got mushy, clearly marked by egg water. The sauce did not look homemade either. My friend liked it though, except for the bread. Make of that what you will.

The Guesthouse Vienna: Repeat visits apparently make me unhappy. The eggs Benedict here come by default with one egg, though you can pimp them, extra egg or different bread, all for an extra charge. My friend loved them, while I definitely will not be back. The eggs were not poached but boiled and kept warm, and that is just not what I want for breakfast.

Gerstner K. u. K. Hofzuckerbäcker: The lonely egg lay on half a muffin and my first impression was favorable. The egg was poached, the ham fried, and the sauce Hollandaise generous. Unfortunately the sauce had the color and taste of a store bought one. Still, everything else convinced me. The whole dish was warm, including the egg, and there is a lot to be said for that. Also this is one of the fanciest places in Vienna to eat eggs Benedict, so maybe overlook the sauce.

Café Florianihof: This traditional coffeehouse recently got a new owner and now offers all day breakfast, eggs Benedict included. Here a single egg sits on a slice of organic brioche, surrounded by three slices of ham and plenty of sauce Hollandaise. The sauce tasted suspiciously ready made, but says otherwise. My friend said it was not the worst eggs Benedict creation.

Bizù: One poached egg lies on a slice of sourdough with warm tomato, wilted spinach, supposedly crispy bacon, and a garnish of sauce Hollandaise. The sauce is used sparingly and drizzled stylishly over the bread. Unfortunately both sauce, not home-made, and egg were cool, though the tomatoes and spinach were hot. So overall it was warm enough and actually quite tasty despite the odd presentation and the disappointing sauce.

Hiddenkitchen City: During the week this is a lunch restaurant, but on Saturdays you can come for breakfast. The menu offers two versions of eggs Benedict, one green and one pink. Neither has much to do with the original. The sauce Hollandaise came out of a squeeze bottle and looked as if it had split, more yellow oil than sauce. Only a single egg, though freshly poached and organic. The pink version got better remarks, the green one was just not good.
