Cocore is a Neapolitan restaurant that focuses mainly on pizza, while also offering other dishes from the region. Although it is only a couple of minutes from my place, I had visited just once before and was not particularly impressed. My main issue had been the Neapolitan style crust, which is soft and airy, whereas I usually prefer the Roman style, thin and crisp. Still, tastes can change, and recently I decided to give Cocore another chance.

The weather was warm enough to sit outside, and with very little traffic in the area, it felt much more comfortable than the indoor seating. Inside, the tables are placed quite close together, which makes for a rather tight dining experience.

We both ordered pizza despite my earlier reservations since it simply did not feel like pasta weather. Pizza, in my view, works in any season, and in the worst case leftovers can always be taken home. As it turned out, that was not necessary at all. The classic Margherita was absolutely delicious. The crust was generously puffed and soft, yet had a subtle crunch on the outside. Topped with rich San Marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella, and fresh basil, it tasted wonderfully balanced. The chunks of tomato and the fragrant basil really stood out. Suddently I found myself no longer minding the thick crust at all and finished the entire pizza.

The Crudo di Parma pizza was equally impressive, though less surprising since my niece was the one who recommened coming to Cocore. Topped with thinly sliced prosciutto, arugula, parmesan, cherry tomatoes, and mozzarella, and finished with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, it looked as good as it tasted. Don’t you think it looks almost like a piece of art?

In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed my return visit to Cocore. It is always satisfying to rediscover a nearby spot and see it in a new light. Uusallly pizza is not my go to when dining out, but Cocore has certainly earned a place on my list. Yours, Pollybert
