Strolling through London – around Covent Garden

Covent Garden is another area in London which feels like a small neighborhood place despite being in a very large city. After strolling around Westminster and beyond I looked up a couple of sights that I had pinned on my map. First up was Goodwin’s Court, a narrow alley. Once I arrived there though I was less impressed. Yes, it is a small alley and the street lights look cute, but why someone would mention it as a place to see I really do not know.

Lazenby Court was another narrow alley, which looked way cuter though. There was a pub at the entrance to it, which almost made me sit down. The only Lazenby I know by the way is George Lazenby, who played James Bond exactly once in 1969.

Walking through the narrow alley an old sign from The Lamb & Flag invited weary travellers to refresh themselves with a glass of beer.

A bit more fun was Conduit Court with its silvery lights and at the end of it St Martin’s Courtyard beckoned with its sky full of tulips.

Passing through Slingsby Place onto Mercer Street made me realize again that London is by far the best mixture of old and new. There are so many pedestrian zones that just invite you to sit down and drink something.

I finally landed at Seven Dials in Covent Garden, a beautiful square with a large sundial in the middle. Seven roads leave from here so that it looks from above like a spoke. Laid out in 1693 it is a pleasure to spend time around the place and its spoke streets. Small boutiques, restaurants, bars, and coffee places all beckon again to stop and stay for a while.

Next up I walked into Neal’s Yard with its many colorful houses. This was another cute place where I felt it must be enjoyable to sit here in the evening under all these lights. But there was no time to relax as I still had some other places on the plan for today.

Since I was in the area I peeked into Seven Dials Market, which is basically a large food hall. I saw it recommended online, and while it might have interesting stalls it smelled very strongly of food.

The last stop for the day was Outernet London, which is close to Oxford Street. This is an open projection hall, I am not really sure how else to describe it. It consists of two spaces with projections all around. While it does look kind of cool when you see for example flamingos or a seaside somewhere in Italy, it is also a bit of a waste of time. It might be more interesting after an edible, but that is up to you. Yours, Pollybert

PS: This is how it looked when I passed it by chance a second time. Don’t tell me that Outernet wouldn’t be way better in a different mood.
