Breakfast at Edison Café

On this recent Saturday sitting in Edison Café felt like a bliss. Through the big windows I could enjoy the sunshine, even though outside it was cold. Despite the large windows there was no draft, so unlike my visit to La Mercerie. The restaurant has an industrial look and feel with its brick wall and big ventilation pipes. Nonetheless it felt cozy.

Edison Café offers all kinds of different egg dishes (scrambles, omlettes, ham and eggs) as well as the popular avocado toast and eggs Benedict. Since I haven’t done that for a while I ordered the eggs Benedict. At the Café Edison it’s only one egg, served on buttery toast, with crunchy bacon underneath, a bit of wilted spinach, and topped with a beautifully poached egg. The sauce Hollandaise was on the side in a little extra dish.

Even though it didn’t look like much at first sight, this was really good. Everything was tasty, the sauce definitely home-made and it had a lovely, thick consistency like mayonnaise. It was easy to always put a dollop of sauce on each bite. The bread as well was a nice surprise, toasted and buttery. Overall, just delicious.

The other breakfast dish was the very popular avocado toast. Here it comes on Joseph’s bread with an avocado cream underneath, salad and tomatoes and topped with at least half an avocado thinly sliced. It had a really fresh and appealing look and it also tasted so.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit at Edison Café. The food was delicious, service was quick and really attentive, and we whiled away easily three hours over coffee. What can I say, I felt right at home here. Yours, Pollybert
