Eggs Benedict are nothing special in Vienna anymore, lots of places offer list this breakfast staple on their menu. Just check out the other posts for Vienna below. Meanwhile, here are the latest places I visited and ate eggs Benedict. Yours, Pollybert
Donnersmarkt: The eggs Benedict looked perfect, with the rich, buttery sauce Hollandaise and sprinkles of chive on top. The muffin had been toasted, the ham looked fresh. One could maybe complain about the size of the muffin which appears to be a bit too large. My friend liked his eggs, except for the muffin. He felt it was too dry. The bite I tried though was delicious and not at all dry. They tasted exactly as they should in my opinion.
Kutsch: My current favorite restaurant for eggs Benedict is Kutsch. One bite was enough to convince that I have finally reached eggs Benedict heaven. The sauce Hollandaise was thick and creamy, with a hint of acidity. Together with the eggs it had the perfect balance. But it was the muffin that brought it all together. It had the right consistency to soak up the sauce, but chewy enough to have some texture. The perfect eggs Benedict!
StadtCafe: The eggs Benedict of StadtCafe were a disappointment. And once you see the picture of the eggs you will agree with me. Especially after seeing the ones from Kutsch above. Clearly something went wrong in the kitchen with the sauce Hollandaise. But nobody noticed and the eggs arrived in front of me. At StadtCafe the eggs Benedict come with a cured ham, that’s a novelty. Usually it’s either cooked ham or fried bacon. And there is a reason for that, because thick sliced cured ham can’t be cut. Although Vulcano ham has great flavor, it overpowered everything else in this dish.
Motto am Fluss: The eggs Benedict come here in a vegetarian version with mushrooms, but you can order extra bacon or salmon with it. I liked the taste of the sauce Hollandaise and the salad worked for me. Just the mushrooms were too dark and had quite an intense flavor because of it. The eggs are served on a slice of sourdough bread, which is toasted and therefore hard to cut. Quite okay, but nothing special.
Öfferl Bistro Landstrasse: There is not really much to say about the eggs Benedict at Öfferl. They were neither bland nor remarkable. The sauce Hollandaise was too runny and there was a lot of green stuff on top. The ham got lost in all this frippery. Not a bad breakfast though, just not memorable.
360° Ocean Sky: The eggs Benedict here come with only one egg, but that one is an onsen egg. So at least this was special. Everything else about this breakfast dish was not great at 360° Ocean Sky. Most of all it was all cold, which is for a warm breakfast rather irritating. The slice of whole-grain rye bread was just to course for the gentler components of the eggs Benedict. Next time I will only come for the view, but not the food.
