Eggs Benedict are nothing special in Vienna anymore, lots of places offer list this breakfast staple on their menu. Just check out the other posts for Vienna below. Meanwhile, here are the latest places I visited and ate eggs Benedict. Yours, Pollybert
Schwein: The eggs Benedict here are called Benni Magic were totally lackluster in my opinion. One poached eggs lies atop a toasted croissant that has lost all its reason to be called that. Unrecognizable in its hard and dry new state of being. Spinach and pulled king oyster mushrooms surrounded the egg, and a rather cool sauce Hollandaise made from brown butter is poured generously over everything. The sauce lacked any nutty flavor, so I am not sure where the brown butter came into play. Best of all was the parmesan on top.

Bouvier: The restaurant of the Hoxton hotel offers eggs Benedict, eggs, Florentine, and eggs Royale. I chose the classic version and was not disappointed. Although it didn’t look like much, the combination was quite satisfying. The muffin was perfect underneath, I loved the roasted ham, just a bit more sauce Hollandaise would have elevated this dish even more. The last two bites of muffin I had to do without any sauce. But I still remember it in a positive way.

Zum Schwarzen Kameel: I can’t say when I have been so much disappointed from eggs Benedict. On my quest to find the best ones in Vienna I ate a couple that should have better been avoided. But the these ones were one of the biggest disappointment. Maybe because Zum Schwarzen Kameel has such a good reputation. Not in my book anymore. Go for anything else, but something that needs to be prepared on order. But avoid the eggs Benedict here. The dish arrived cold, with only one egg, which had no runny yolk and on thick, dry toast. There are better eggs Benedict to be had in the city.

Nikkai Cafe & Restaurant: Compared to the eggs at Zum Schwarzen Kameel these ones were way better. At Nikkai you can get eggs Benedict or an avocado toast with poached eggs, bacon and sauce Hollandaise. Both versions arrived war, with runny yolks, and a warmish sauce Hollandaise. Overall the dishes lacked seasoning and the toast should have been toasted. It tasted okay here, but there’s more to eggs Benedict than just doing the minimum.

Café Frauenhuber: The menu and the breakfast chef seem to have changed since my last visit. Unfortunately so did the quality of the eggs Benedict. Two soft boiled eggs nestled on butter brioche with ham, but were unfortunately covered in store bought sauce Hollandaise. Which makes a visit to Café Frauenhuber for this dish not worth your while. But if you want to enjoy a Viennese breakfast in the oldest coffee house in Vienna, then go for it.

Café Telegraph: The coffeehouse offers four different kinds of eggs Benedict, which are either ham, spinach, salmon and avocado, or crab meat with Miso sauce Hollandaise. The royal version sounded amazing, but honestly it was far from it. The whole combination was bland and unappealing, such a shame to waste good ingredients. I think what annoyed me the most was the limp salad all around. Since the eggs were the priciest dish on the breakfast menu, I expected better.
