Café-Restaurant Resselpark sits in the middle of the park, just a few steps away from the Karlsplatz metro station. Until now, I had never visited it, not even for a drink on one of the many occasions I was in the area. Resselpark itself is nowadays home to a very nice Christmas market in front of the Karlskirche and also to the Popfest, held every year in July. So clearly, I had seen the coffeehouse before, just never really noticed it, despite it being family run for more than 20 years. This Saturday, however, things were different and Café-Restaurant Resselpark was my destination.

I had made a reservation, but this was clearly not necessary as the coffeehouse was empty except for one other table. With the available seating inside and on the terrace, even at peak hours this place should be able to seat you as a walk-in.

I was not really sure what to expect, as the coffeehouse clearly caters to tourists and students alike, with TU Wien right there and its menu available in German and English. The seating inside and outside lacked a bit of charm, but the colourful portraits tried their best to remedy that. I decided to give the breakfast burger a go, while my friend ordered the eggs Benedict.
Coffee arrived quickly, the lonely waitress trying her best to make up for any shortcomings of the coffeehouse. The breakfast dishes did not take much longer either, and I was still unsure what awaited me. It turned out that we had stumbled upon a hidden gem.
The eggs Benedict were served on a large slice of sourdough bread from Joseph, with two poached eggs resting on a bed of green leaves and ham and generously covered in sauce Hollandaise. The sauce was clearly homemade, judging by the colour alone. It also tasted that way and my friend was clearly happy with his choice of breakfast.

My breakfast burger arrived in a bun and was filled to the brim with bacon, fried ham, cheese, a fried egg, tomato, onions, some leafy greens and truffle mayonnaise. Some raw vegetable sticks were served on the side, probably to make this dish a little healthier.

The bacon and ham had a nice colour and a delicious roasting aroma. The cheese had melted slightly over the fried egg, the red onions added a nice crunch and the bun had clearly been toasted. My first bite into the whole thing was quite the revelation. This was a very good breakfast burger. I am not sure if it was the truffle mayonnaise that did the trick, as I usually do not even like truffle, but this was a very delicious breakfast.
Café-Restaurant Resselpark might cater mostly to tourists, although these need to discover it first. During the hour we spent here, only two other tables became occupied, both by tourists. Despite all that, I was more than happy with my breakfast, although it felt a bit weird to sit almost alone in the large and empty dining room. Yours, Pollybert
